On Sparring

Jackson and two of his friends got into a discussion about who had the best mom. "Mine's better. No, mine's better." Jackson's friend finally responded with, "My mom is twice as better as your mom." To which Jackson replied...

"Oh yeah? Well, my mom is a googleplex times better than your mom."

On Race

Adoption is not common in our area. And it is very difficult for an American to adopt a native of our country. Therefore, Jackson stirs up quite a bit of curiosity among the locals. They are not shy in their inquiries. Jackson looks very much like the native people. And often people assume that he is a native. Jackson's perspective on the matter...

"Okay, let's just say I am Southeast Asian! I mean, everybody thinks I am anyway!"

On Language

In our third week of language study we had spent a long afternoon practicing language with locals in the malls, food stalls, and the market. Jackson pondered out loud...

"I bet when you go into different stores these Asians think, 'Who are these crazy white people?!' "

On Sportsmanship

The first time I played Jackson in Uno, the little stinker beat me (Ginger). Jackson enthusiastically exclaimed...

"I just laid the smack down on you loser!"

On Cars

"I'm trying to get out of this stinking car. Do you know why I call it stinking? Because the tail light is broke, the jack is broke, and the air con is a piece of junk - that's why."

On Flying

Jackson has a burning passion to visit the Eiffel Tower, thanks to his friend Heidi. So, he often makes this request. On the most recent occasion I replied, "Jackson, it isn't that simple." His matter of fact response was...

"Sure it is. You just buy your tickets. Get on the plane. Fly to Paris. And see the Eiffel Tower!"

On Life

Jackson was trying to jog our memory about an event that occurred when we lived in the States. He described, dropped hints, did everything his little brain knew to do to help our tired minds. In exasperation he inquired...

"You remember mom? Do you remember, you know, when life was good?"

On Health

Recently Brian suffered from a fever and aches. Jackson patted Brian on the arm and offered to take care of him. Jackson then preceded to bring Brian Motrin, place the thermometer under Brian's arm, and let him have Mickey for his nap time. Keep in mind Brian had been sick for all of 12 hours.

I had Dengue Fever and was under the weather for over 3 weeks. One day Jackson asked me to dance with him. I informed him I was sick and could not dance. His compassionate reply...

"Sure you can! All you have to do is set your mind to it!"

On Games

After Jackson beat me in Dominos for the fifth time in a row, he stated...

"Mom, you are NOT in command of your game!"

On Faith

Jackson has witnessed many a prayer answered. Therefore, he has significant faith when it comes to prayer. This afternoon I saw him bent over in the middle of the floor. I asked what he was doing. He replied he was praying. I wasn't sure for what he was praying. But it didn't take me long to figure it out, for in a few short minutes he called out...

"Hey mom! Are we still in SEA?"

On Gifts

On Jackson's fifth Birthday he received many books. There were homeschool books, reading books, maze books, coloring books, and activity books. Brian and I had requested these things as they are practical, needed, and often unavailable here. Of course, Jackson is a young boy who enjoys TOYS.

So, after he opened his umpteenth gift bag filled with...books he exclaimed...

"Wow! This is GREAT! And yes, I AM being facetious."

On Location

Only those who know Brian well will appreciate this.

As we were walking through a "car park" one afternoon Jackson offers up the following...

"Mom, I know we want to live where God wants us to live, but I just don't want it to be in such a NASTY place."

He is his father's germophobic son indeed!

On Maintenance

The week we returned from our annual meeting our hot water heater, air con, and car broke. We took the car to the shop, and they called within an hour to say it was "fixed". On the way home it cut off going 50 km/hr. It was NOT "fixed". So, when the guys came to fix the hot water heater and air con we were a little leery. After some time the maintenance men reported the water heater and air con were fixed. Jackson inquired...

"Are they fixed like the car was fixed?"
